چکیده
Nonlinear constrained optimization problems in discrete and continuous spaces are an important class of problems studied extensively in arti®cial intelligence and operations research. These problems can be solved by a Lagrange-multiplier method in continuous space and by an extended discrete Lagrange-multiplier method in discrete space. When constraints are satis®ed, these methods rely on gradient descents in the objective space to ®nd high-quality solutions. On the other hand, when constraints are violated, these methods rely on gradient ascents in the Lagrange-multiplier space in order to increase the penalties on unsatis®ed constraints and to force the constraints into satisfaction. The balance between gradient descents and gradient ascents depends on the relative weights between the objective function and the constraints, which indirectly control the convergence speed and solution quality of the Lagrangian method. To improve convergence speed without degrading solution quality, we propose an algorithm to dynamically control the relative weights between the objective and the constraints. Starting from an initial weight, the algorithm automatically adjusts the weights based on the behavior of the search progress. CDIT-Based Constrained Resource Allocation for Mobile WiMAX Systems
Adaptive resource allocation has been shown to provide substantial performance gain in OFDMA-based wireless systems, such as WiMAX, when full channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter. However, in some fading environments (e.g., fast fading), there may not be a feedback link sufficiently fast to convey the CSI to the transmitter. In this paper, we consider resource allocat...
متن کاملConstrained genetic algorithms and their applications in nonlinear constrained optimization
This paper presents a problem-independent framework that uni es various mechanisms for solving discrete constrained nonlinear programming (NLP) problems whose functions are not necessarily di erentiable and continuous. The framework is based on the rst-order necessary and su cient conditions in the theory of discrete constrained optimization using Lagrange multipliers. It implements the search ...
متن کاملConstrained Optimization for Liquid Crystal Equilibria: Extended Results
This paper investigates energy-minimization finite-element approaches for the computation of nematic liquid crystal equilibrium configurations. We compare the performance of these methods when the necessary unit-length constraint is enforced by either continuous Lagrange multipliers or a penalty functional. Building on previous work in [1, 2], the penalty method is derived and the linearization...
متن کاملDesign of a Constrained Nonlinear Controller using Firefly Algorithm for Active Suspension System
Active vehicle suspension system is designed to increase the ride comfort and road holding of vehicles. Due to limitations in the external force produced by actuator, the design problem encounters the constraint on the control input. In this paper, a novel nonlinear controller with the input constraint is designed for the active suspension system. In the proposed method, at first, a constrained...
متن کاملA New Global-Search Method for Designing Filter Banks
In this paper, we present a new global-search method for designing QMF (quadrature-mirrorlter) lter banks. We formulate the design problem as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem, using the reconstruction error as the objective, and the other performance metrics as constraints. This formulation allows us to search for designs that improve over the best existing designs. Due to the nonli...
